Dr. Khan is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), specializing in chemical process safety, risk management, fire and explosion prevention and environmental sustainability. With extensive experience in academia, industry, and international collaboration, he is recognized as one of Bangladesh’s leading experts in chemical safety, fire safety and industrial risk governance.

Dr. Khan’s professional journey spans over a decade of research, teaching, and technical consultancy. His work focuses on advancing chemical safety culture, developing fire and explosion risk models, and integrating process safety into engineering design and policy frameworks. He has provided expert consultation for government and private sectors, including World Bank, UNDP, BERC, BCIC, DIFE, BNACWC and the Department of Environment (DoE). His leadership roles include serving as a member of national committees investigating major fire and chemical incidents and as a member of parmanent national committee for fire and chemical incident prevention.

An OPCW Associate (2024), Dr. Khan has undertaken advanced training at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (The Hague) and University of Surrey (UK), contributing to international chemical safety initiatives. His research interests extend to pollution control, occupational health, inherently safer design, and circular economy strategies.

Beyond research and teaching, Dr. Khan actively promotes safety capacity building through workshops and training for engineers, industry professionals, firefighters, and first responders. He has been featured in national media for expert commentary on chemical fires and industrial accidents, advocating for stronger regulatory and preventive frameworks.
